Is the US Facility in Djibouti a Possible Target in The US-Israeli War Against Iran?

US military installations in the Middle East are now possible targets for the Islamic Republic of Iran as the US-Israel war against Iran approaches its third week. Iran attacked Bahrain, Iraq, Jordan, Kuwait, Qatar, Syria, and the United Arab Emirates with missiles and drones on February 28. The bombings were a response to the US-Israeli airstrikes that killed Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, the supreme leader, and sparked the current conflict.

However, Iran and its allies might target another US base, this time in Africa. The only US military installation on the continent is Camp Lemonnier, which is located in Djibouti. It is a crucial site for US operations in the Horn of Africa and is home to over 4,000 US military personnel.

However, Djibouti is only across Yemen from the Houthis, who have strong ties to Iran. The current conflict between Iran, Israel, and the United States has not been addressed by the Houthis. Due to “continuous regional tensions and public threats against U.S. interests in the region,” the US embassy in Djibouti issued a security notice on Tuesday.
