Parties in Ivory Coast Start preparing for the 2025 Presidential Election
Pascal Affi N’Guessan, a former prime minister of Ivory Coast, was announced on Saturday as the FPI’s presidential candidate for 2025.
With 99.34% of the votes cast by about 4,500 voters, N’Guessan was re-elected as the FPI’s president at a congress in Yamoussoukro, the capital of Ivory Coast.
Former President Laurent Gbagbo’s party is the FPI. When Gbagbo was imprisoned at the Hague on charges of war crimes and crimes against humanity, N’Guessan assumed leadership of the organization.
N’Guessan ran for president twice, in 2015 and 2020, but was defeated by incumbent Alassane Ouattara each time. He was temporarily detained on charges of operating a “parallel government” after rejecting the results.
N’Guessan’s main ideas include restoring presidential term limits and doing away with the senate. The controversially elected Ouattara has not stated if he plans to run for a fourth term.
On Saturday, the Popular Ivorian Front (FPI) announced Pascal Affi N’Guessan as its candidate for the 2025 presidential election. N’Guessan was re-elected as the FPI’s president at a congress in Yamoussoukro, the capital of Ivory Coast, with 99.34% of the ballots cast by almost 4,500 voters.
