Naomi Ohene Oti, a Nurse from Ghana, Receives the 2025 Global Nursing Award for Her Contribution in Cancer Care

Ghanaian oncology nurse Naomi Oyoe Ohene Oti received the 2025 Aster Guardians Global Nursing Award for her groundbreaking contributions to nurse education and cancer care. Sheikh Nahyan bin Mubarak Al Nahyan, the UAE Minister of Tolerance and Coexistence, gave out the award, which carries a $250,000 reward, during a ceremony in Dubai.

Out of 100,000 candidates from 199 countries, Ohene Oti, the chief of nursing at the National Radiotherapy Oncology and Nuclear Medicine Centre at Korle-Bu Teaching Hospital in Accra, was chosen. Her research has concentrated on resolving disparities in cancer treatment in Ghana and throughout Africa, especially through systemic and educational transformation.

I have personally observed the disparities in cancer treatment for more than 20 years, and I have committed myself to bridging these gaps by education, outreach, and systemic change,” she stated during the event. “Every nurse in Ghana, Africa, and the world who leads with courage, compassion, and resilience deserves this recognition—it is not just mine.”

Under her direction, significant advancements have been made in Ghana’s cancer nursing field. She also assisted in introducing training initiatives in partnership with foreign organisations, such as the Cross Cancer Institute in Canada.
