Lebanon Claims that Bursting Pagers have Left Eight People Dead and Over Two Thousand Injured

When their handheld pagers burst on Tuesday, over 2,700 individuals were injured nationwide, according to Lebanon’s health ministry, and at least eight lives were lost.

Medics and Hezbollah militants are among those injured.

According to one official, the armed group’s “biggest security breach” in almost a year of fighting Israel, was caused by the detonations, for which Israel is to blame.

Since the crisis in Gaza started last October, the two have been fighting each other across borders.

On the occurrence, the Israeli military has remained silent.

A few months ago, the commander of Hezbollah issued a call to action for the fighters in the group to give up using smartphones, claiming Israel had the means to follow them.

The method of pager detonation is not immediately apparent.

In order to assist in caring for the enormous number of injured, the health ministry has asked all medical professionals to report to their respective hospitals.

It has also asked people who use pagers, such as healthcare personnel, to throw them away.
