Kinshasa, Democratic Republic of the Congo Receives the First Shipment of the Mpox Vaccine

Three weeks after an epidemic of the mpox virus in 12 African countries was declared a worldwide emergency, the first batch of 100,000 doses of the vaccine officially arrived in the capital of Congo on Thursday.

Regarding the mpox vaccine, Western partners including as the United States and the European Union have pledged to deliver about 380,000 doses.

That being said, this quantity is less than fifteen percent of the three million medicines that the authorities assert are required to contain the mpox outbreaks in Congo, the epicenter of the world health catastrophe.

Laurent Muschel, Director-General of HERA, made the following announcement to the media at the airport: “Today, we are delivering 100,000 doses of the Mpox vaccine, which will arrive at Kinshasa airport at 12:10. The identical flight, carrying an extra 100,000 doses, is planned for this Saturday. This indicates that 200,000 doses in total will be sent to the Democratic Republic of the Congo to help with the mpox outbreak. We are moving to give the required vaccinations to protect the at-risk population, just two weeks after the WHO and the Africa CDC declared a continental and worldwide health emergency.
