Jihadist Strikes in Borno State kill at Least 40 Farmers

At least 40 farmers have died in Nigeria’s north-eastern Borno state as a result of recent jihadist-related violence, according to a government official’s report on Monday. According to Borno State Governor Babagana Umara Zulum, militants associated with Boko Haram and its offshoot faction that professes allegiance to the Islamic State are suspected of orchestrating the attack.

According to the United Nations, approximately 35,000 civilians have been murdered, and more than 2 million have been displaced in the northeastern region. The 2014 kidnapping of 276 schoolgirls by Boko Haram in Chibok, Borno state, the epicentre of the insurgency, drew international attention to the problem.
