In Nigeria, There are 48 Instances of Mpox in at Least 20 States

The virus has been found in Abuja and 20 additional states, bringing the total number of cases of monkeypox (mpox) in Nigeria to 48, according to the Nigerian Centre for Disease Control (NCDC). No deaths have been reported despite the increased number of illnesses.

10,000 doses of the vaccine were sent to Nigeria on August 27 by the US to help contain the outbreak. An international traveler’s health declaration form has been implemented in an effort to stop the virus’s spread.

The virus is spreading quickly over the continent, to the point where the African Union has declared a public health emergency.

Contact with contaminated materials, people, or rodents with the mpox virus can spread the disease. Fever, bodily pains, swollen lymph nodes, and skin lesions are among the symptoms that usually appear five to twenty-one days after contact.

Antiviral medications can help control the illness even if there isn’t a specific treatment. Recuperation is anticipated in a few weeks for the majority of moderate cases.

Akin to smallpox, mpox, often called monkeypox, typically results in milder symptoms such fever, headache, and body aches. In extreme situations, painful blisters and sores on the hands, genitalia, chest, and face may appear. Close skin-to-skin contact is the main way that the virus is transmitted.
