In Egypt, Antony Blinken Is Looking For Developments About The Agreement On A Ceasefire In Gaza
Tuesday was spent in Cairo by US Secretary of State Antony Blinken, who met with Egyptian President Abdel-Fattah El-Sisi and other high-ranking diplomats facilitating negotiations between Israel and Hamas.
The talks are a part of the most recent attempt to mediate a cease-fire in Gaza and a deal for the release of hostages between Israel and the Palestinian organization Hamas.
There are concerns that Blinken’s ninth visit to the area since the conflict began may turn into a more protracted regional war.
Following his meeting with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu yesterday, Blinken announced that Israel has agreed to a “bridging proposal” from the US meant to reduce the disparities between the two countries.
In order to start new negotiations, he pleaded on Hamas to follow suit.
The extremist organization said in a statement that the plan reverses earlier agreements, albeit it did not specifically reject the idea.
But experts think that the pressure on all sides, especially the prospect of Iran and its supporters attacking Israel, has increased the likelihood of a truce in Gaza.
