To Recognise Four Iconic Black Singers, the BET Awards

The American TV channel Black Entertainment Television (BET) established the awards ceremony in 2001 with the intention of honouring Black artists, singers, actors, composers, and entertainers.

In celebration of the awards’ 25th anniversary this year, BET has chosen four iconic artists to receive special recognition for both their advocacy and artistic abilities. At the ceremony next month, singer-songwriter Mariah Carey, rapper Snoop Dogg, actor Jamie Foxx, and gospel singer Kirk Franklin will all receive the Ultimate Icon Award.

The Ultimate Icon winners, according to BET, were chosen based on their activism, community influence, and entertainment role. In the meanwhile, the top BET award nominee is singer and rapper Kendrick Lamar.

The show’s host will be actor Kevin Hart. On June 9th, the ceremony will be broadcast live from the Peacock Theatre in Los Angeles. At the celebration, which is scheduled for next month, Jamie Foxx and gospel musician Kirk Franklin will be presented with the Ultimate Icon Award.
