Flooding In The Kassala Province Of Eastern Sudan Impacts Displaced People

Flooding in the Kassala district of eastern Sudan has made matters worse for displaced people who were taking refuge there.

persons were calling for assistance in what was known as the Industrial School, one of Kassala’s largest camps for internally displaced persons. Senegalese internal refugee Ali Abdul Jabbar clarifies

“We traveled from Sennar and have spent the last 20 days living in the Industrial School neighborhood. You can see the water’s state and the rain. There aren’t any problems right now. We will relocate there as soon as our current accommodations are fixed. It is evident what the conditions are right now. We implore the authorities to act quickly to resolve this matter.”

Another Sennar province refugee, Merwan Abood, called the situation dire and catastrophic and underlined the pressing need for help.

“I appeal to all kind-hearted individuals in Kassala province, across Sudan, and beyond to assist the people in need with essential supplies like equipment, shelter, blankets, clothing, or medicine.”

People in Kassala waded through knee-deep floodwater, clinging to what they had managed to save.

Some, however, chose to abandon their partially soaked tents and take a nap on dry land.
