China Reiterates the BRICS Alliance’s Demands for Harmony and Collaboration

China’s Foreign Minister Wang Yi made a call on Wednesday for the BRICS alliance to become more united and cooperative against “political forces holding Cold War mentalities.”

Speeching at the 14th BRICS summit of top security officials in St. Petersburg, Wang addressed the criticism that certain nations have leveled at the group.

Wang stated, “We need to protect our respective sovereignty, security, and development interests, as well as each other’s core interests and major concerns.”

The meeting is being held in advance of the BRICS summit that will take place in Kazan next month and is anticipated to be attended by Chinese President Xi Jinping and Russian President Vladimir Putin.

Brazil, Russia, India, and China formed the BRICS alliance in 2006; South Africa joined in 2010.

Iran, Egypt, Ethiopia, and the United Arab Emirates are currently part of it due to recent expansion. Along with formal applications from Malaysia, Turkey, and Azerbaijan, Saudi Arabia has stated that it is thinking about joining.

In the meantime, the national security council secretary for Iran charged on Wednesday that the US was escalating terrorism and infringing on other countries’ independence and sovereignty.

The remarks were made by Ali Akbar Ahmadian during a discussion about security matters amongst BRICS delegates.
