At the Gigantic Vegetable Battle, a Russian Farmer Breaks the National Record with a 969-Kilogram Pumpkin

By cultivating the heaviest pumpkin ever recorded in Russia, weighing an incredible 969 kilograms, a Russian farmer has broken his own national record. The creator of the hideous gourd, Alexander Chusov, said that months of meticulous scientific work had produced it. Chusov clarified, “It begins with the right seeds; giant pumpkins grow from giant seeds. Every detail counts, from precise nutrition to heating the soil.”

Over 3,000 competitors from all over Russia participated in the large vegetable growing competition, with the enormous pumpkin serving as its centrepiece. But there were other strong contenders than Chusov’s pumpkin. The crowds were also amazed by a 73-kilogram courgette and a 144-kilogram watermelon.

“It’s like timing a swim,” said contest organiser Daria Yermilova, comparing the competition to professional athletics. Growing is a long-term activity, but you can do it for enjoyment. You devote yourself fully to it for six months.

The victorious veggies will now be on public exhibit at Moscow’s famous Apothecary Garden, providing guests with a unique opportunity to view these enormous achievements of agricultural brilliance.
