At Davos, Trump, Sisi, and Gulf Powers Support a New Board of Peace for Gaza
US President Donald Trump met Egyptian President Abdel Fattah el-Sisi on Wednesday on the sidelines of the World Economic Forum in Davos, Switzerland. The leaders discussed regional issues, including efforts to ease tensions between Egypt and Ethiopia over the Grand Ethiopian Renaissance Dam, as well as developments related to Gaza.
Following the meeting, Egypt’s foreign ministry confirmed that President el-Sisi has accepted President Trump’s invitation to join the newly formed US-led “Board of Peace.” In an official statement, Egypt said it would complete all required legal and constitutional steps to formalise its participation. The ministry praised Trump’s Middle East approach and expressed support for the board’s role in the second phase of a broader plan aimed at ending the Gaza conflict.
Egypt’s announcement came as Saudi Arabia revealed that it, along with seven other Muslim-majority countries, has also agreed to join the initiative. In a joint statement, Saudi Arabia said the foreign ministers of Saudi Arabia, Qatar, Turkey, Egypt, Jordan, Indonesia, Pakistan, and the United Arab Emirates had taken a shared decision to participate in the body, which will be chaired by Trump.
