According to France, a Citizen Detained in Mali is an Authorized Embassy Worker

According to Mali, Yann Vezilier was recently arrested together with two generals and other military people on suspicion of participating in a plot to destabilize the nation.
The junta characterized him as a French intelligence agent who had organized military and civil society players in the statement issued on Thursday.
In order to clear up what it described as a “misunderstanding” and secure his prompt release, France’s foreign affairs ministry said it was in negotiations with the Malian government. Additionally, it stated that the Vienna Convention on Diplomatic Relations had been broken by Vezilier’s arrest. The opposition in exile from Mali has called the purported destabilization plans untrue and asked the junta to provide proof.
The Patriotic Resistance Front, a coalition of foreign-based lawmakers, has called for the resumption of constitutional order and the release of individuals who have been detained.
Mali has endured more than ten years of unrest characterized by governmental instability and Islamist insurgencies in the north. The current president, General Assimi Goita, came to power in 2020 and 2021 as a result of a string of coups.
