Zambians Cast Ballots as Hichilema’s Economic Performance is Put to the Test
Amidst widespread dissatisfaction with living expenses, Zambians started their ballots on Thursday in a presidential election that will test President Hakainde Hichilema’s economic record. In a one-day vote that is anticipated to yield results on Monday, millions of people are also selecting legislators and local council members.
The election is more than just a choice between political parties for a lot of voters. Businessman Akapelwa Akapelwa noted that voting was a relief and that people were making decisions on their children’s prosperity as well as the future of the nation.
Mululu Chirwa noted that voting fulfilled his duty as a Zambian citizen, while Belinda Katanga expressed gratitude for being able to exercise her democratic right. After pushing economic reforms to stabilize the copper-rich nation, Hichilema, who took office in 2021, is running for a second term.
Seventy-year-old voter Mathias Ngoma claimed that voting was “the only voice” he had and that he had taken part in every election he could. He encouraged people to cast ballots, emphasizing that every vote counts, and said he braved the cold to select leaders he believed would benefit his district.
