Bobi Wine’s Wife is in The Hospital Following a Raid on Her Home by Soldiers

Speaking to reporters from her hospital bed in Kampala, the wife of opposition politician Bobi Wine of Uganda has described what she claims was a nocturnal raid on her home by soldiers looking for her husband. During the raid, Barbra Itungo Kyagulanyi said she was strangled and kept at gunpoint.

My husband’s phone has been at home, so searching for him was one of the primary motivations. I turned it on yesterday at around 3 p.m. because I was trying to find a password. I believe they were certain he was at home after receiving a signal from his phone. However, he had forgotten his phone.

In a post on X on Saturday, Wine claimed that “hundreds of soldiers” broke into his house while he was out, pillaging it and beating his wife. “They put my wife on gunpoint, asking her to reveal my whereabouts,” he claimed in his letter. “They insulted her and strangled her. According to Kyagulanyi, the soldiers tried to coerce her into providing them with information about her spouse by physically abusing her.

We have poles in the sitting room, so one of the men grabbed me by the hair, lifted me up, sliced my mouth, and struck my head on the pole. He pulled me down and sat me down after hitting me.
