On Ocean Viking, Sudanese Refugees Express 0ptimism for 2026
A group of Sudanese survivors of a shipwreck celebrated a nice lunch on New Year’s Eve aboard the humanitarian ship Ocean Viking, just days after departing the Libyan coast on a handmade boat. It happened after they left Sudan, which is experiencing what the UN has called the worst humanitarian crisis in history due to a civil conflict.
Mohamed was one of the rescued migrants who expressed his wishes for the new year, saying, “I hope that the world will be safe and peaceful, nothing more.” That everyone will be stable, even inside their own nations, that people will lead fulfilling lives, and that human rights will exist, as they say, for good—but that good, God willing, will be for the entire world.”
Following the NGO’s announcement of the completion of repairs and improved crew training, the rescue signifies the start of Ocean Viking’s operations again. According to Mossua, a Sudanese survivor, it’s a pleasant relief for those who were saved. “Praise God from the Ocean Viking, and I want to express my gratitude to the Ocean Viking crew for saving us, carrying out their duties, helping us, and reviving us. “People who sought life in Libya died—we were dead too, but we sought life, praise be to God, and we found it,” he said.
