International Opposition to Israel’s Recognition of Somaliland is Spearheaded by Somalia

A strong worldwide outcry against Israel for recognizing Somaliland as an independent state is being spearheaded by Somalia. The region is an essential, inseparable, and unalienable part of Somalia’s sovereign territory, the Somali Prime Minister’s office stated in a statement on Friday, rejecting Israel’s recognition as illegal.

Israel’s actions have been denounced by the African Union, the Arab League, Egypt, Nigeria, and several other nations and international organizations, who claim they seriously jeopardize global peace and security. Despite declaring its independence from Somalia in the 1990s, Somaliland has never received international recognition.

Israel has been looking for tactics to drive Palestinians out of Gaza since its recent battle there. According to a March report, Israel and the United States have reached out to Somaliland with plans to relocate displaced Gazans in the region, offering financial, diplomatic, and security support. Palestine and the world community swiftly denounced the action, claiming it violated international law and amounted to crimes against humanity and ethnic cleansing.
