Fighters Suspected of Carrying out Summary Executions in El-Fasher Are Detained by Sudan’s RSF
The paramilitary Rapid Support Forces of Sudan claim to have detained combatants in the newly taken city of El-Fasher who are said to have violated human rights. The group posted video of a fighter named Abu Lulu being imprisoned in what the RSF said was a North Darfur prison on the Telegram messaging app. TikTok videos purportedly showed Abu Lulu carrying out summary killings.
Witnesses reported that the RSF went on a rampage and killed hundreds of people based on their ethnicity when they took over the besieged capital of North Darfur on Sunday. According to an unidentified RSF officer in the video, Abu Lulu was taken into custody on RSF Commander General Mohamed Hamdan Dagalo’s directive. He said there were no difficulties and that the arrest was conducted in a professional and disciplined manner.
As the RSF fought the Sudanese military for possession of the army’s final bastion in the area, El-Fasher was besieged for over 500 days. As residents tried to flee El-Fasher, the UN Emergency Relief Coordinator informed the Security Council on Thursday that there are “credible reports of widespread executions.
