Boeing And the Man who lost his Whole Family in the 737 MAX Crash have Reached a Settlement

Boeing and Paul Njoroge, the Canadian who lost his whole family in the 2019 Ethiopian Airlines Flight 302 accident, have reached a last-minute deal only days before a high-profile trial was scheduled to start.

Citing the severe mental anguish he has experienced since the catastrophe, Njoroge has filed a lawsuit demanding millions of dollars in damages. His family was travelling to their home country of Kenya in March 2019 when the Boeing 737 MAX died shortly after departure from Addis Ababa. All 157 passengers on board perished in the jet crash a few minutes later.

Among the dead were Njoroge’s wife, Carolyne, and their three young children: Ryan, who was six years old, Kellie, who was four, and Rubi, who was nine months old and the youngest to perish aboard the aircraft. In addition, Njoroge lost his mother-in-law, whose family is involved in a different lawsuit.

At the time of the crash, Njoroge was in Canada. He met his wife while attending college in Nairobi. Later, he had intended to travel to Kenya to be with his family. In a 2019 congressional testimony, he said how he kept picturing the pain his family endured throughout the brief six-minute journey.
