The Oldest Barber in the World is a Japanese Woman Who is 108 Years Old

A Japanese woman who is 108 years old has been recognized by Guinness World Records as the oldest professional barber in the world. According to Shitsui Hakoishi, who turns 109 this year, she intends to retire at the age of 110 because she is unable to serve as many clients as she formerly did due to knee problems.

She and her husband started a store in Tokyo in 1936 after receiving their license, but it was damaged in an air strike, forcing them to evacuate to their hometown of Nakagawa. She opened a little store at home and raised their two kids when Jiro was drafted and failed to return from the war.

Hakoishi credited her longevity to her healthy genes and her daily exercise routine, which she began when she was 70, while neighbors and frequent customers praised her accomplishment. She carried a torch at the 2021 Tokyo Olympics torch relay.
