Following The Collapse Of A Landfill In Uganda’s Capital, The Death Toll Has Increased To 21

At least 21 people were killed when a sizable dump site in the capital of Uganda fell, according to police on Sunday, and the death toll is expected to increase even higher.

The Kiteezi dump, which disposes of rubbish for a large portion of Kampala, collapsed late Friday, injuring fourteen more people.

According to a statement from Kampala Capital City Authority, at least two of the deceased were minors.

It’s thought that a lot of rain before the collapse.

Although the specifics of the incident remain unknown, the city authorities declared that there had been a “structural failure in waste mass.”

According to Patrick Onyango, the spokeswoman for the Kampala Metropolitan Police, they have received 21 victim remains from the waste collapse.

“We are still trying to get in touch with the local authorities, they are giving various figures but as security we have tasked our team to engage the families who lost their beloved ones and also to engage the local community and the local leaders and maybe to get the data from the Uganda Bureau of Statistics to get the actual number of people who were there,” he said.
