78 Patients Were Taken Out of Gaza to Receive Treatment Overseas
According to the Israeli military, 231 patients and their caretakers have been permitted to leave the Gaza Strip for overseas medical care. They departed via the Kerem Shalom Crossing with Israel, according to a statement released on Wednesday by COGAT, the military organization responsible for civilian operations in Gaza. According to the report, six patients and fifteen caregivers traveled to Romania, and 78 patients and 132 caregivers traveled to the United Arab Emirates.
The World Health Organization, the European Union, and the United Arab Emirates—which established diplomatic relations with Israel in 2020—coordinated the project. According to a list of priority candidates created by the Gaza Health Ministry, the U.N. health agency is assisting in the coordination of the evacuations, said Dr. Rik Peeperkorn, WHO representative for the Occupied Palestinian Territories, on Tuesday.
“The patients have a variety of chronic illnesses in addition to trauma. He added, “We also medevac a lot of cancer patients.” In a hospital ward in Rafah on Tuesday, Israa al-Halabi, whose son Abdel-Moneim had been struck by shrapnel, was anxiously awaiting evacuation. In order to cure Abdel-Moneim for burns and an amputated limb, she and her son will go to the United Arab Emirates.
