Congo Launched an Ebola Vaccine Campaign for Frontline Personnel

Congo began immunising health-care workers against Ebola on Saturday in Bunia, the epicentre of the country’s fastest-growing outbreak. Health-care personnel and other front-line workers are being prioritised for the Ervebo vaccine, which has previously proven successful in epidemics caused by the more frequent Zaire strain.

Nikole Landu, a healthcare worker, expressed her desire to get vaccinated due to her close contact with sick individuals and increased risk of contracting the disease.So the immunisation I got today will help protect me. “I may still contract the disease, but I’m less likely to develop a severe case,” she noted.

Ervebo, according to health officials, may provide some protection against the Bundibugyo virus due to their similarity. The vaccine’s ability to prevent sickness in patients infected with Bundibugyo Ebola is still being examined.
