Brazil’s Lula Blasts the UN Security Council During the Progressive Leaders’ Summit in Spain
During Saturday’s Meeting in Defense of Democracy in Spain, Brazilian President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva sharply criticized members of the United Nations Security Council. Progressive leaders from around the world convened in Spain to rally their forces and protect the global rules-based order in a world turning right and violently divided by superpowers.
Lula accused permanent members of the UN Security Council of unilaterally forcing their choices on the world. We can’t wake up every morning and go to bed every night with a president’s Twitter account threatening the world and inciting war. In other words, they all make decisions without consulting the United Nations, of whom they are both members and council members,” he remarked.
Lula also expressed sympathy with South African President Cyril Ramaphosa, who has angered US President Donald Trump. The US POTUS has eliminated South Africa from the future G20 conference in Miami in December 2026.We’re going to fight, Ramaphosa, for you to travel to the G20 in the United States because the American president doesn’t have the power to remove you from the G20, since he doesn’t own the G20,” Lula stated.
