Security Services are Prepared for This Weekend’s G20 Summit, According to South Africa

South Africa has declared itself fully prepared to safeguard global leaders attending the first-ever G20 summit to be held in Africa. On Wednesday, Acting Minister of Police and the National Police Commissioner addressed a parade of officers in Soweto, urging them to maintain discipline and respond firmly to any disruptions during the high-profile event.

Police Commissioner General Fannie Masemola reminded officers of their crucial role in ensuring the summit’s success. He urged them to serve with professionalism and uphold the country’s laws. “The nation is counting on you. Treat delegates and citizens with respect, but act firmly against criminals,” Masemola said.

Authorities confirmed that demonstrations during the summit will be permitted only in designated protest zones near the Johannesburg venue. Civil society groups have announced plans for peaceful protests over the weekend, but officials warned that any violations would be met with the full force of the law.

A hard lockdown will take effect from Friday in the areas surrounding the summit venue and will remain in place until Monday to ensure the safety of international delegates and smooth proceedings.
