The Pope Exhorts Christian Brothers to Consider the Difficulties That Young People Encounter

Several hundred priests and nuns who teach in Catholic schools worldwide are part of the association. He asked them to remember the difficulties that today’s youth confront.

He told the group, “We consider the loneliness brought on by relationship patterns that are becoming increasingly characterised by emotional instability, individualism, and superficiality.”

The pope also noted that there was a “predominance of rhythms and lifestyles in which there is not enough room for listening, reflection, and dialogue, as well as a spread of patterns of thought weakened by relativism.

He claimed that this “caused loneliness” in school, in the household, and occasionally even among peers. The institution was established in 1680 by a French priest and teacher, and the brothers are commemorating the 300th anniversary of Pope Benedict XIII’s 1725 recognition of it. With an emphasis on education, community development, and youth formation, its schools are now located worldwide, including in 22 African nations. Additionally, it created six African universities with specialisations in education, engineering, and medicine in Burkina Faso, Cameroon, Ethiopia, Côte d’Ivoire, Madagascar, and Kenya.
