Northern Nairobi Buildings were Evacuated following the Collapse of a seven-story Block
The apartment tower in Nairobi Kahawa West suddenly collapsed, reducing it to rubble in shocking video.
Nairobi Governor Johnson Sakaja stated in a statement that the County Planning Department had sent out an evacuation alert to the households in the impacted building last week.
Two persons have been rescued and transferred to the Kenyatta University Teaching, Referral & Research Hospital, according to a statement released by the Kenya Red Cross on Sunday.
Tenants in two nearby buildings have been evacuated due to indications of structural collapse. There is still a search and rescue operation in progress.
It is believed that some of the residents may still be inside the building despite the fact that it had been condemned and they had been told to leave.
The building owner was instructed to provide a structural integrity report, according to a statement from the National Construction Authority. However, before this could be completed, the building fell. According to media sources, the Nairobi County urban planning department is to blame.
Due to Nairobi’s strong housing demand and dishonest developers’ frequent disregard for the law, the Kenyan city has a history of building collapses.
